Quick Tuna Patties - Light Delicious Meal For the Summer Months

Here in an excellent light snack/meal for the summer. You don't necessarily have to be a tuna lover to enjoy this meal, so don't let the name fool you. This is an impressive easy to make meal that will be easy to reheat and have your family asking what you did to make tuna taste so good! This is kind of a traditional meal at our house and we always looking forward to it especially when the aroma is lingering in around the house.

Serves: 4

* 1 tablespoon butter
* 2 tablespoons cut, green pepper
* 1 can condensed Cheddar cheese soup
* 1/2 cup cut celery
* 2 tablespoons chopped onion
* 2/3 cup evaporated milk
* 1 can tuna rinsed drained and flaked
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 1/8 teaspoon pepper
* 1 tablespoon lemon juice
* 1 pkg. refrigerator crescent rolls

Set oven top to medium. Melt butter in saucepan; add green pepper, onion and celery and cook until tender. Combine milk and soup; measure out 1/3 cup of sauce and add to celery mixture; heat remaining sauce to serve on Turnovers. Add tuna, seasonings and juice to celery mixture and mix. Form 2 crescent rolls into an rectangle (8" x 5"); repeat with remaining rolls. Put 1/4 of tuna mixture on 1/2 of each rectangle. Fold over other half and seal edges with fork. Cut 3 small slits on top of each. Back on uncreased cookie sheet in a preheated 400F oven about 20 minutes. Serve immediately with sauce.

Making Emergency Non Maple Flavored Syrup

Maple syrup is derived from sap of the maple tree. It is sweet tasting substance which is often eaten on pancakes, French toast, waffles, or cornbread. It may sometimes be used as ingredients in cooking or baking, candy making or for preparation of deserts. Surprisingly it is also occasionally used for flavoring in the manufacture of beer. Maple syrup was initially used by Native American who instructed the early settlers in its use.

Generally maple syrup is found in the northeastern portion of North America from the sugar maple trees or the black maple. These particular trees have high sugar content within their sap. To process the sap one would boil it in what was designated a "sugar house". This is a building that is louvered near the top to allow the steam to vent outside from the resulting boiled sap. In America the largest producer of maple syrup is the state of Vermont with 450000 gallons per year.

Traditionally, one would harvest maple syrup by tapping through the bark of the tree and letting the sap drip into a bucket. You would then collect the buckets of sap on a daily basis. Production would usually be during the months of February to April. With most maple trees freezing evenings plus warm days are required to induce the sap to flows.

The processing procedure is extremely slow due to the vast sum of water which must boil out of the sap. It takes about 40 liters of maple sap to create a single liter of maple syrup.

Maple syrup as well as maple sugar was prominently used during the Civil War and in the years just prior to the civil war due to the fact that most of the cane sugar or molasses was produced in the south by slaves. During World War II food rationing people located in the northeastern portion of America were generally encouraged to compliment their sugar rations with the use of maple syrup. Several War cookbooks can still be found that were printed to assist the American housewives to use this sugar alternative in their foods.

There are many maple flavored syrups which are imitations. Most of these syrups do not contain any maple syrup at all. In these syrups their primary ingredient is usually corn syrup that is flavored with something called sotolon. They are usually much thicker then the real maple syrup.

I would like to present my own version of non-maple syrup that could be used in emergency situations when no real syrup could be obtained. Below I have listed the recipe for this item.

Ingredients

6 medium potatoes

2 cups of water

1 cup of regular white sugar

1 cup of brown sugar

Procedure

1. Boil the six medium, unpeeled potatoes in the water

2. Continue to boil until one cup of liquid is left

3. Removed the potatoes from the mixture

4. Continue stirring the liquid until you reach the boiling point once again

5. Add the white sugar

6. Add the brown sugar

7. Continue to boil until they have dissolved completely

8. Replace the pan on the stove

9. Store the mixture in a glass jar in a dark location for 1 week

Food Supplies For Emergency Times

Stocking food for emergency preparedness means using your head before your heart (or in this case stomach). For those with dietary requirements above the usual that sustain life, having those specific ones on hand or ones to replace the fresh food sources, should be your first order of the day. Next, realize that although you may love foods like white flour bread and those cheap noodle packs so easy to boil and eat, there are little if any nutrients in these simple carbohydrates. Any vitamin enrichment will be minimal and usually artificial. Look at health sustaining ones that will keep your energy going long-term and not just for the next hour or two, and ones that will provide the nutrients you need to keep your immune system up. Let's face it, in stressful times, our immune systems take a beating, so this is not the time to skimp on ensuring you have a good diet, if at all possible. Of course I am referring to those more ideal times when you have access to the three-day or more food store per person you have stocked well in advance. You will hopefully after reading this.

Protein - canned foods such as beans, tuna, chick peas, sardines, salmon, canned ham. Some of these also have a high liquid content such as the chick peas and beans, or canned bean salad. Powdered milk, and, um, if you find the taste lacking, keep some chocolate drink powder on hand to make the milk palatable tasting. Peanut butter, canned nuts, (make sure the expiry date is viewed, as nuts tend to go rancid more quickly than some foods and thus a shortened expiry date). Whole grain cereals - a good one will include protein, vitamins, minerals, fibre and complex carbs. Jerky - beef, turkey or any other meat, will be chock full of protein, but also include not so lovely additives such as sodium nitrate, so they are not always the best choice.

Carbohydrates - again whole grain cereals, whole grain flours such as buckwheat, Scottish oats, barley. You can cook them up and add your sugar you packed, some cinnamon and milk you mixed up, and voila, you have a very nourishing and sustaining meal.

Foil meals - these are found in camping stores and online. These have a long shelf life, might be somewhat more expensive than other foods, but the convenience of these cannot be underestimated when trying to stock up with nutritious foods.

Don't forget the can opener, utensils, wipes and sanitizers in case water isn't as abundant as you were planning on.

High liquid foods - canned fruit, canned vegetables, apple sauce, soups, - these will provide an extra dose of liquid although some canned vegetables and soups have a high salt content.

Comfort foods - the extras that keep you more cheerful for their presence - chocolate, honey, jam, salt, sugar, instant coffee, tea bags, hard candy. These may not be necessary, but having a caffeine withdrawal headache along with the stress of the emergency or disaster you are facing, does not seem such a smart move. And as for chocolate - what can I say? It speaks for itself in providing a bit of welcome reprieve from ordinary foods.

Baby food - don't forget these if you have infants in the home or on the way. Pablum, jars of food, canned formula.

Time frame - although three days of food per person is a good place to start, if you are able to store more food, I would definitely advise it. There are people in New England kicking themselves this past December/08 after not being able to get to a store for days, being stuck in the house with no power, maybe a wood stove, and wishing they had some of the foods listed above to keep them going during the two week or longer power outage. Be prepared!

Bagless Vs Bagged, Which Vacuum Puts Your Health in Danger?

Have you ever been in this circumstance? Fifteen minutes till a special dinner you set for you and your guests and all that is left is vacuuming the kitchen floor. Looking down at your vacuum cleaner you then realize that both the bag is full and the filter needs replacing. Panicking as you see the noodle and flour spills on the floor caused by cooking your elegant dinner; a simple ten minutes vacuuming job became a cause of panic and anxiety. Consequently you swear off bagged vacuums and decide to begin investigating bagless vacuum cleaners as soon as the dinner ends. Although bagless vacuums might be the solution to this problem it has many tradeoffs.

A tremendous amount of people question the differences between being the owner of a bagless vacuum cleaner and being the owner of a bagged vacuum cleaner. One of the principle and distinct advantages to owning a bagless vacuum cleaner is never being in a situation similar to the one mentioned above. A bagless vacuum cleaner uses a simple dirt bin that fills up and must be dumped when full, directly translating to no bag changes, and no fretting your current stock on vacuum bags. It is impossible for the situation mentioned above to occur if you own a bagless vacuum cleaner because there simply are no bags to run out of.

Lifetime filters is an additional benefit of bagless machines is found in the vacuum brands such as the Dyson. This popular bagless vacuum cleaner has the unique advantage of not needing a filter change. Dyson filters are washable as opposed to being disposable, a feature that saves time, money, and frustration. Dyson filters work by simply cleaning them every 6 months, and leaving them out to dry for 12 hours, directly after doing so you are able to start vacuuming. It is very important to remember that not all bagless machines include this feature, and other bagless vacuums may have you changing filters more often to compensate for not having bags in the machine.

Cyclonic technology is a feature some vacuums such as the Dyson, which allows the vacuum cleaner to provide the same amount of suction despite of the amount of filth filling the bin. So even of the vacuum dirt bin is entirely filled with dirt the vacuum will never lose suction. Again this feature is not found in all bagless vacuum cleaners, but should be heavily considered in you search for a better vacuum. A bagless vacuum that does not have the cyclonic technology will fill up with dirt and quickly lose suction, causing you anger and frustration.

Although there are many advantages to owning a bagless vacuum cleaner there are also some drawbacks. One of the biggest downsides of owning a bagless vacuum cleaner is emptying the dirt bin. When emptying the dirt bin the dirt does not neatly fill the trashcan instead it scatters everywhere leaving a mess all over the floor. Dirt scatters to the point where manufactures suggest going outside to empty the bin. For those with asthma and allergies emptying the dirt bin can become an agonizing chore as the dirt can easily trigger allergy and asthma problems. Asthma and allergy suffers should heavily consider purchasing a bagged machine as a bagged machine encloses allergy triggering filth within the machine, allowing you a healthier house.

An additional downfall of a bagless machine is the dirt within the machine is always visible; the tank holding the dirt will NEVER look clean. Your vacuum will reveal all the dirt within it and the dirt will not go away until you dump and wash the dirt bin. As mentioned above dumping the bin is not a 'fun' experience and washing the bin is an even more un-pleasurable and arduous experience. One must wash out all the dirt and debris that is clinging to the vacuum dirt bin by hand in order to make their machine look 'clean'.

Another disadvantage of some bagless vacuum cleaners is the filtration system. This does not apply to all bagless vacuums but some vacuums contain horrendous filtration systems. Many machines rapidly fill and congest with dirt the minute the machine is switched on. Dirt should be filtered through the filter medium, which in a bagless vacuum cleaner is located in the same place the dirt and debris is located making the filter highly inefficient and unhealthy. The filter is supposed to contain and stop dirty air from spreading within your house, but with this type of setup the contaminated air spreads throughout your house, which should be a serious concern for allergy suffers. Another problem with some bagless filters is the amount of maintenance and money that is required to upkeep the filter. Numerous bagless vacuums require that you change the filter every 6 months, this totals to an amount of roughly $80 a year. A total which is very high for a vacuum cleaner which is supposed to prevent you from spending money on 'extras.' The filters for many bagless vacuum cleaners are both costly and ineffective. For this reason it is vital to look for either a bagged vacuum cleaner or a bagless vacuum cleaner with a lifetime washable filter (an example being the Dyson vacuum cleaner).

There are both positives and negatives to both a bagged and bagless situation. When purchasing a vacuum cleaner the most vital thing to consider is your lifestyle. You have been provided with a list of both the advantages and disadvantages of owning a bagless vacuum cleaner so hopefully your future vacuum purchase will be ideal to your own unique situation.

Vancouver has the Best Chinese Food in the World according to Condé Nast Traveler magazine

www.globaltvbc.com www.concierge.com Vancouver may be hosting the WInter Olympics, but it also seems to triumph in dumpling devouring. Over 38 meals in 12 restaurants, our indefatigable writer beholds the thrill of noodle pulling. (Warning: Don't read this on an empty stomach) Forget about dumpling hunting in San Francisco. Cancel that pilgrimage to Flushing, Queens, for fish ball soup. If it's Chinese food you're after, pack your chopsticks for Vancouver—and say a silent thanks to geopolitics as your plane lands. It was 1997's repatriation of Hong Kong that began the mass influx of Chinese to British Columbia's lower mainland, a migration which continues to this day, fueled in part by Canada's immigrant-friendly policies. Today, almost one in five of Vancouver's two million residents is ethnically Chinese. Combine those demographics with the city's legendary seafood and you have the recipe for an outsize number of extremely good Cantonese, Shanghainese, and Szechuan restaurants. According to local Chinese food critic and writer Stephanie Yuen—who was born in Hong Kong and has eaten extensively there, in mainland China, and in Taiwan—Vancouver is home to the best Chinese food in the world. Period. Perhaps that explains why visitors from Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou have started showing up in Vancouver just to eat the food they so love. Maybe it's time you did likewise. PaRappa the Rapper 2 Playthrough 8/8: Final Party!!

Ah... Parappa the Rapper 2... the "proper" sequel to PtR and the follow-up to NanaOn-Sha's UmJammer Lammy. While this Playstation 2 game is a competent title compared to UJL and PtR in its own right, it's somewhat hard to see it due to what could perhaps be considered the overglamorized origins of the original (Yes, it basically popularized and started the modern "Rhythm" or music game craze, but it has aged somewhat), the excellence of UmJammer Lammy (which this game doesn't live up to), and the somewhat mysterious (read: poor) documentation regarding how to play or what to do in the manual. When you get down to it, there is a bit to like about PtR2 if you give it a chance and discover all it has to offer. I have decided to put up "footage" of the game not because it was a challenge or anything, but because I'm addicted to the tunes. I say "footage" because this is definitely NOT how I play the game normally. This series of videos was actually engineered to NOT go into "Cool/Freestyle" mode (harder than it sounds actually) and to play "almost" correctly so as to influence a "Cool" rating as little as possible. This was done to show the performances without the dumb freestyling, which I think really sucked in this game (not the improvisation, just the freestyling). It's actually several replays edited with the story. The story still deals with Parappa's fascination/crush with Sunny Funny, but this is overshadowed somewhat by the game's quirky new main plot, which deals ...

World Tour - Ethnically Diverse Neighborhoods of Sydney Offer Culinary Delights

When most people think of the Australia, they think of the iconic Sydney Opera House, or perhaps the Harbour Bridge or even cuddly koalas and kangaroos. But in addition to beautiful buildings, landscape and an abundance of unique wildlife and plants, Sydney offers a variety of international cuisine that has caused even some of the world's best chefs to take off their chef coats and see what is happening in the ethnically diverse kitchens down under.

In the inner west neighborhood of Haberfield, known for its great Italian patisseries and restaurants, locals and visitors arrive early in the morning for some of the best coffee and croissants in the city. It is not uncommon to arrive early just as the baker is wiping off his chef pants and serving the morning's first batch of almond croissants. Combine the flaky pastry with a flat white and locals and tourists alike are ready to start the day. By dinnertime, the smell of pizzas and homemade pasta begin to permeate the air. In warmer months, many restaurant patrons chose a table outside on busy Ramsay Street, the city's most famous street for a good Italian meal. Most restaurants are BYO, so guests can opt to bring their favorite wine to accompany the meal.

In nearby Ashfield, Chinese food reigns supreme. You might not be able to read the menu or correctly pronounce the name on the chef jacket, but this friendly, laidback neighborhood offers everything from Northern Beijing-style cuisine to staples such as dumplings and duck. Try the shallot pancakes, garlic green beans and salt and pepper prawns for an evening to remember. Ashfield represents another colorful Sydney neighborhood where you can eat and feel like a local.

The Sydney suburb of Marrrickville is known for its strong Vietnamese influence. There is not a better way to battle a cool Sydney day than by warming up with a hot bowl of Pho. This is a traditional raw beef and noodle soup served with lemon wedges, chili, mint and bean sprouts. Patrons can flavor the soup from hot to mild. And after warming up with Pho, you can sample some handmade prawn rice paper rolls to complete your meal. Most of the restaurants in the area are very affordable, which leave more money to explore the other sights and sounds of the city.

Selections of Quick and Easy Recipes for Students and 'Struggling' Cooks!

It's that time again when our off-spring have gone off to University and Student Life full of excitement at the prospect of wall to wall freedom and fun!

As parents we hope they will fit at least SOME studies into their busy student schedule of late night partying and long lie-ins!
We have to accept the last thing on their minds for a few weeks is going to be using the kitchen.

However, once they have settled into their new routine, it can be surprising how they can cope with cooking when they realise they need to economise if they want BEER MONEY!

When my own youngest 'flew the nest' last year I tried to find a recipe/cook book to pack which explained cooking from scratch for someone who hardly knew the difference in a kettle and a saucepan! Well! That's a bit exaggerated but you know what I mean!
I couldn't find what I wanted so I set about composing a selection of easy recipes with step by step instructions with students in mind. I had a fair idea, from the questions she asked, what kind of information would be needed.

Hey Presto! Bingo! I got her cooking and she can now rustle up a decent meal with little effort!
Apparently her friends have joined the cooking revolution and are pinching the recipes! They now have a nice little cooking 'rota' going in the shared house.

RESULT? My Student daughter can cook and follow recipes competently, eats MORE healthy food and LESS fast food and her mother is happy!! I don't even mind the bags of dirty laundry!

WONDER IF I WROTE A GUIDE ON WASHING AND IRONING WOULD IT WORK?

How to Choose a Savings Account

If you are looking for a savings account there is now more to consider then which banks is nearest your house. The perks (and gimmicks) that are offered can be hard to pick through. The marketing campaigns can be very persuasive and most people just choose where they have their checking account or the bank most convenient for them. Since we are all different you probably should figure out what is best for you before you go looking at the advertisements so you don't get convinced of a feature you don't actually need. Here are a few points of consideration to narrow your choices.

Frequency of Use - Will you be needing to deposit to this account daily, weekly, monthly, or longer? What time frame will you need withdrawals? If this is an emergency account will you have access when you need it? While many of the online savings accounts offer higher yields, they don't have the accessibility of your neighborhood bank. Also, with yields so low you could just consider another checking account with a card you only get out for emergencies. Noodle exactly why you are using this account. This will make a good first cut.

Interest Rate- Now of all the accounts you have to choose that meet your access needs pick the one with the highest interest rate. The only reason I would not consider interest rates is if you don't intend on keeping this account for any amount of time.

Perks- Now it's time to fish for the goodies. They will be proudly displayed in all the advertisements and on the walls. They range from appliances, matched funds for the first few hundred dollars saved, higher interest rates on the first couple of thousand dollars saved, toys, neat saving tricks (like keep the change), and reduced rates on other bank products. You know what you like, have fun shopping.

Education-This is often a missed opportunity, but some banks have very intelligent people working for them. If opening an account buys you a little time to ask questions every now and again to these educated financial advisors, this could be worth the price of admission alone. Just listen to your friends when they tell of a bank that did something great for them. Odds are a smart business person is behind that scene.

Fly With Me - JoBro Fanfic (Chapter 23)

*Madys POV* Why wouldnt Brandon come? Obviously he was lying, because last night he seemed like he was free. I went back over to my house, and found Josh sitting on the steps again. "Hey Babe." He said smiling. "Hi." I said trying to force myself to smile. I let him inside, and we were talking for awhile. His phone buzzed again, and he said he had to go. He had to go to the bathroom first, so he put his phone on the table, and went to the bathroom. When he got out he put his coat on, and left. He seemed to be in a big hurry. I went back over to sit on the coach. I watched him leave, and started to watch TV. Suddenly I heard a buzzing sound. I looked over at the table, and saw Joshs phone. I picked it up, and saw a text message symbol. I dont know why, but I opened it. It was from this girl named Brittney "I had a really good time last night. We should do it again. Thanks again for staying the night! ~Brittney" I couldnt believe what I just read. I dropped his phone, and ran out my door. Wait, I cant go over to Amy, and Emilys house. Tears were falling down my eyes. I just sat on my steps until I saw Brandon pulling up in the guys drive way. *Amys POV* After Mady left we went over to the pool. While we were putting the snacks out we took a break, and put our swim suits on. We had our clothes on top of them though. Kevin, and Alexis went over to the chairs, and sat down to talk. Joe was ready to go into the pool, but everyone else wasnt sure yet. "Emily!! Come in the Pool ...
