China Pavillion
Lo mein is a Chinese dish with noodles. It often contains vegetables and some type of meat or seafood, usually beef, chicken, pork, shrimp or wontons. Traditionally this is a variation of wonton noodle soup. The soup is simply separated from the noodles and other ingredients and served on the side. However, the version sold in many places in North America is rather a hybrid of chow mein, though they are prepared differently. Chow mein is stir-fried while lo mein is not fried.[1] Etymology The term lo mein comes from the Cantonese lōu mihn (撈麵), meaning stirred noodles.[2] The Cantonese usage of the character 撈, pronounced lōu and meaning "to stir", differs from the character's usual meaning of "to dredge" or "to scoop out of water" in standard Mandarin Chinese, in which case it would be pronounced làauh or lòuh in Cantonese (lāo in Standard Mandarin).[3][4] In Mandarin, the dish is more typically called bàn miàn (拌麵), not to be confused with bǎn miàn (板麵). American Chinese cuisine In American Chinese restaurants, lo mein is a popular take-out food. In this setting, Lo mein noodles are usually stirred with brown sauce (a sauce made from soy sauce, corn starch, sugar, and other seasoning), carrots, bok choy or cabbage, onions, and shrimp, roast pork, beef, or chicken. Lobster lo mein, vegetable lo mein, and "House" lo mein (more than one meat) are often available. However, in some regions of Western North America such as Vancouver, ordering Lo Mein will result in a ...

Kitchen efficiency
Planning and preparing your time at the kitchen are the keys to making the most out of the time you spend at the kitchen. Even if you are at the house you can do this things to make a more pleasant time spent at the kitchen.
efficiency in the kitchen will make you cook better meals, serve fresher dishes and when mastered allows you to serve that five course Chinese Lauriat all hot and fresh. This also means that you are less stressed while cooking. This will make you more confident in your culinary skills.
So what makes the best time management in the kitchen?
First you have to have a plan. Most people just remember the ingredients of their meals and go through them in a linear fashion. Saute garlic, brown meat, add salt, put broth and add vegetables. This way of cooking can be easy when doing just 1 dish. However adding 2 or more dishes to serve on the menu will wreck even the most concentrated chef.
The thing most people forget is that preparing meals can actually starts hours, days or even weeks before the actual cooking. Chopping a few ounces of onions before hand can mean saving hours when it comes to the cooking day itself. You can save a lot of time be slicing your vegetables the night before the big day comes. This will allow you on concentrating on the act of cooking itself
Pre-cooking meat is an open secret in many a posh restaurant. You may think that your steak has been freshly grilled but in fact it was half cooked hours before your order. Fresh lobster? Think again, that crustacean was sitting on the pot long before you sat down on your reserved seat.
Preparing sauces, oils, vinegar, sugar, or anything else can be prepared before hand. You can put them on little packets long before you start cooking. This way you can cook fabulous dishes in the time it takes to cook a pack of instant noodle soup.
Need to wash the dishes in 5 minutes flat? Organize then into size and rinse them in your sink. Let your sink fill with water and put on some soap. Pass the dishes one by one dipping and scrubbing them with speed. Do the same for everything. Then rinse them the same way. If you aren't done in 5 minutes this is a guarantee that you can cut dish washing time by half. You wont even need a dish washer anymore. It will only slow you down.
Preparing for any situation if the real key to time management in the kitchen. If you know that you may run out of hot water for your chop suey and you have a few quarts ready to pout you will definitely save time. Writing down all the ingredients and steps with the dish your currently doing will boost your confidence and productivity.
All great cooks have several arsenals in their kitchen. And the kitchen timer is the prime weapon. Not one cook in the world can cook several meals together without a trusty kitchen timer. In fact a cook can use as many as 5 at a time. One for eggs, one for that chicken soup. One for baking and one for timing that icing mix. Several more high end kitchen timers can time all of those in one digital timer device.
A kitchen timer will mean no guesstimating if you meat is already soft enough or if your French toast has been down the oven long enough (French toasts need an oven to be done well, another secret from a chef).
Make sure you have a kitchen timer right on a convenient place on your kitchen. Free from anything that would obstruct its view and would cause it to fall. Along planning, preparation and the other techniques mentioned in this article, time management in the kitchen can be easy for anyone learn.

"Sunday on Hong Kong Island's South Shore" Modernnomad67's photos about Hong Kong, China

Entry from: Hong Kong, China Entry Title: "Sunday on Hong Kong Island's South Shore" Entry: "Then on Sunday morning I decided to do the touristy thing and take a local double-decker bus across Hong Kong Island to Aberdeen for dim sum brunch at Jumbo Floating Restaurant, one of several huge boat restaurants anchored among the yachts and sampans in Aberdeen Harbor and served by water taxis that run continuously from the docks. Dim sum is the one of the best known forms of Cantonese food and typically showcases the delicate, subtle, and refined flavors characteristic of Cantonese cuisine, and I was eager to try a wide variety of the little morsels because I had previously only eaten one dim sum meal in my life (in Vancouver). Fortunately, because Jumbo is such a touristy spot, my waiter was able to remove the veil of mystery of what was moving around on the dim sum carts for me. I thought I'd stay away from the snails, the steamed pig's "huge intestine" with black pepper, and the stewed beef tripe in satay sauce, among other unappetizing-looking dim-sum delicacies and go mostly for things in presented in pretty little packages. I settled on six dishes I thought would give me a good mix of flavors and textures - 1) steamed dumplings filled with pork and jellyfish in shark's fin broth, 2) steamed ...

The Beauty of Budapest
Often described as The Jewel of the Danube the Hungarian capital of Budapest is a glittering mix of ancient attractions and modern conveniences, combined to form a vibrant and beautiful city. Undoubtedly the brightest jewel on the Danube, present day Budapest was created in 1873 from the separate towns of Buda, Pest and Obuda. With its mountainous region of Buda, the hills drop abruptly into the river to a contrastingly flat Pest sitting on the opposite bank, the majestic Danube flowing between them, a city unspoiled by time. The definitive view of Budapest is that of Castle hill and the First District. Four bridges join Buda and Pest; the Chain Bridge, opened in 1894, and still the most recognizable symbol of the city, Margaret Bridge opened in 1876, giving access from the road to Margrit Island, a two and a half kilometre stretch of Parkland in the middle of the Danbube, Liberty Bridge, built for the Millennium celebrations and opened in 1896, with the Grand Market Hall at one end and the Gellert Hill at the other, and lastly Elizabeth Bridge, a long white cable bridge opened in 1964.
Budapest offers a unique blend of European cultural influences, all presented with a style that is distinctly Hungarian. There are centuries of history to explore through its abundant monuments and architectural sites, from Turkish baths to the turn of the Century architecture. Budapest has one of Europe’s largest Parliaments, the largest functioning synagogue, and the continent’s first underground railway. Visitors will find the remains of fortresses and buildings from Roman times, Gothic and Baroque buildings, incredibly rich Art Nouveau architectural heritage, and still operating Turkish baths. Budapest is richly endowed with natural springs of thermal waters possessing various medical properties, and it is these that supply the city’s many thermal baths. No other capital city in the world can boast at having 100 thermal springs and 12 medicinal baths within its boundaries, where 19 million gallons of thermal water rise to the surface each day. Among its most precious treasures are its sixteenth century Turkish baths, as well as one of the larges bathing complexes anywhere in Europe, with thermal baths so warm that the outdoor pools are popular with bathers even in the depths of winter.
There is a huge range of cultural entertainment to choose from in this incredibly exciting, colourful and varied city of world culture, with 237 monuments, 223 museums and galleries, 35 theatres, 90 cinemas, 2 opera houses, 12 concert halls and nearly 200 places of amusement. There are theatrical performances and concerts of classical and light music every day, with both Hungarian artists and guests from all over the world. The city’s mainstream cultural wedge features Andrasssy ut, Budapest’s most beautiful boulevard lines with café’s, restaurants and many designer shops. Budapest’s very own Broadway crosses it at Nagymezo utca and the Opera House. The Liszt Academy is also comfortably ensconced here among many eclectic buildings.
Despite spectacular development, Budapest has preserved its old charm and magic. It is a city where the pleasing harmony of different architectural styles and superb structures , the care’s, baths, the food and culture, combined with legendary hospitality blend into an unforgettable experience. The people of Budapest now enjoy an ever increasing calendar of festivals and cultural events that take place throughout the city, film festivals, jazz concerts, book fairs, to name but a few. It has a continental climate with cold, humid winters, temperatures between zero to minus fifteen centigrade, the river can freeze and it will often snow, you will find locals ice skating on the frozen boating lake, whilst across the park others enjoying the hot outdoor thermal baths. The summers are warm to hot with temperatures between twenty seven to thirty three degrees centigrade.
Hungary boasts 20 wine producing regions; the most favourable natural conditions make thia country a prime location for the production of premium wines. You can visit the vineyards and wineries in almost all regions of the country. The most beautiful landscapes are to be found where the best wine is produced, Tokaj and Alfold in the sand of the Great Hungarian Plain. Several wine regions are found around Balaton where you will find the larges shallow lake in Europe. On the North, the combination of basalt volcano peaks and the water surface of the lake make these the most spectacular site of Hungary.
Hungary’s unique cuisine has influences from the Central Asian Magyar founders of the nations, Turks, Germans, French Austrians, Czechs, Slovaks, Serbians and Croatians. Sauces rich in cream, delicacies such as goose liver, game such as boar and venison, hot fish soup, paprika stew, known as Hungarian Goulash, roast chicken with cottage cheese noodles. Fabulous deserts and pastries, strudels, tortes and the legendary gundel pancakes with runny chocolate sauce.
